10 WAYS TO TUNE UP YOUR PC


Hello friends today I tell you 10 ways to tune up your PC

1. Keep your PC up to date

One of the best and easiest things you can do to protect your PC. Make sure you are set up to get automatic updates from Microsoft. If you us Microsoft software’s [like Microsoft Office or Windows Live messanger,etc...], then you should use the Microsoft Update service. One most important thing is you’ll get alert about new Microsoft software that you can download free.
Now Question is how to turn on automatic updates?
To check for updates
*      Click the Start button,
*      Click All Programs, and then click Windows Update.

2. Performance

Now second thing is you should “look under your PC's to see how efficiently your computer is operating. To check PC's performance, click the Start button >> type Performance in the search box, and then click Performance Information and Tools in search results. 


There it show’s your system's processor, memory [RAM], graphics, and your hard drive are rated according to their capabilities. If you need more information about these ratings mean, click the option what do these numbers mean? There you get your answer.

Tasks in the left pane of Performance Information and Tools can help you improve your computer's performance.

To open Performance Information and Tools

·         Clicking the Start button>> and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type Performance Information and Tools, and then, in the list, click Performance Information and Tools.

There is full details about your computer's capability

The Windows Experience Index measures the capability of your computer's hardware and software configuration.

To view your computer's base score

·         Open Performance Information and Tools by clicking the Start button>> and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type Performance Information and Tools, and then, in the list of results, click Performance Information and Tools.
The Windows display base score and sub scores for your computer. if you think what is base and sub score. Answer: its show’s your pc performance rating. If you don't see sub scores and a base score, click Re-run the assessment. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Speed up your computer with Ready Boost

Ready Boost can speed up your computer by using storage space on most USB drives, memory cards and external hard drive. When you plug a ReadyBoost-compatible storage device into your computer, the AutoPlay dialog box gives you the option to use ReadyBoost and you can choose how much memory on the device to use for this purpose.

3. Action Center

Action Centre is a central area for messages and warnings about security that need user attention.

When you click the warning you can choose to resolve the issue from there. You can also open Action Centre itself to see other notifications and actions you can take to keep your PC running smoothly and faster.

4. ReadyBoost

If you have a USB drive with at least 1 GB to spare you may be able to make your system faster using ReadyBoost. ReadyBoost uses available storage space on a removable device to boost your system speed. Most flash drives and flash memory cards can help speed up your computer.

5. CPU utilization

Your (CPU) is the brains of your computer. It organizes the processes in your computer to help keep it running smoothly and faster.

View CPU utilization and other performance information.

Use the Performance tab in Task Manager to see how your computer's CPU is being used by Windows and other programs running on your computer.
Steps:-
1.      Open Task Manager by right-clicking the taskbar, and then clicking Start Task Manager.
2.      Click the Performance tab.
The top two Performance graphs shows how much CPU is being used, both at the moment and for the past few minutes.A high percentage means that the programs or processes that are running require a lot of CPU resources, which can slow your computer. If the percentage near 100%, then a program might not be responding.

6. Check for viruses and spyware

Be sure your computer has protection against viruses, spyware, and malware.

Action Center

 Action Center to make sure your firewall is on, your antivirus software is up to date, and you’re computer set to install updates automatically. Action Canter checks several security and maintenance-related items of your computer that help indicate your computer's overall performance.
How does Action Center check for problems?
When the status of a monitored item changes your antivirus software becomes out of date, Action Center notifies you with a message in the notification area on the taskbar,at right bottom corner.
To change which items Action Center checks:
1.      Click Start button>> clicking Control Panel, and then, under System and Security, clicking Review your computer's status.
2.      Click Change Action Center settings.
3.      Select a check box to make Action Center check an item for changes or problems, or clear a check box to stop checking the item.
4.      Click OK.

Windows Defender

Windows Defender is antispyware software that's provide with Windows and runs automatically when it's turned on. Using antispyware software can help protect your computer against spyware and other unwanted software when you install some programs using a CD, DVD, or other removable media. Spyware can also be programmed to run at unexpected times, not just when it's installed. Use Windows Defender to help prevent spyware and other potentially unwanted software from being installed on your computer without your knowledge any time you connect to the Internet, and it can infect your computer.
Windows Defender offers two ways to help keep spyware from infecting your computer:
·         Real-time protection.‍‍ Windows Defender alerts you when spyware attempts to install itself or to run on your computer. It also alerts you when programs attempt to change important Windows settings.
·         Scanning options. You can use Windows Defender to scan for spyware that might be installed on your computer, to schedule scans on a regular basis, and to automatically remove anything that's detected during a scan.
When you use Windows Defender, it's important to have up-to-date definitions.

To automatically check for new definitions before scheduled scans (recommended)

1.      Open Windows Defender by clicking the Start button. In the search box, type window Defender, and then, in the list, click Windows Defender.
2.      Click Tools, and then click Options.
3.      Under Automatic scanning, make sure the automatically scan my computer (recommended) selected check box.
4.      Select the Check box for updated, and then click Save. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

User Account Control


What is User Account Control?
User Account Control is a feature in Windows that can help you stay in control of your computer by informing you when a program makes a change that requires administrator-level permission. UAC works by adjusting the permission level of your user account. If you’re doing tasks that can be done as a standard user, such as reading e‑mail, listening to music, or creating documents, you have the permissions of a standard user—even if you’re logged on as an administrator.
When your permission or password is needed to complete a task, UAC will notify you with one of four different types of dialog boxes. below describes the different types of dialog boxes used to notify you and guidance on how to respond to them.

Backup and Restore


It's most important to back up your files and settings regularly so that if you get a virus or have any kind of hardware failure, you can recover your files. For more information about backing up your files, search for "back up" in Help and Support. and there is related artical on site

Windows Update

Set Windows Update to download and install the latest updates for your computer automatically.
To check for Windows updates
·         Click the Start button. And In the search box, type windows Update, and then, in the list, click Windows Update.
·         In the left pane, click CHECK FOR UPDATES, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
·         If you see a message telling you that important updates are available, or telling you to review important updates, click the message to view and select the important updates to install.
·         Select the check boxes that you want to install, and then click OK.
·         Click Install updates.

Notes

·         If language are available, install only the languages that you use.
·         Some updates require restart your computer to finish installing. Save and close all your programs before restarting and then restart your pc.

To install drivers and other optional updates

To install optional updates, you need to select them from the list of updates that Windows finds for your computer. Optional updates are not installed automatically.
Steps:-
1.      Click Start button. In the search box, type window Update, and then, in the list, click Windows Update.
2.      In the left pane, click Check for updates, and then wait while Windows looks for the latest updates for your computer.
3.      If you see a message telling you that optional updates are available, or telling you to review optional updates, click the message to view and select the optional updates to install.
4.      In the list, click the optional updates to see more information about the update. Select the check boxes for any optional updates that you want to install, and then click OK.
5.      Click Install updates.

How will I know what updates have been installed?

Windows Update keeps an update history so that you can check which updates were installed and when.

Windows Firewall

A firewall can help prevent hackers or malicious software (such as worms) from gaining access to your computer through a network or the Internet. A firewall can also help stop your computer from sending malicious software to other computers.

7. Clean up your hard drive

Run it on a regular basis and you will be amazed at your computer's efficiency.

Delete files using Disk Cleanup

If you want to reduce the number of unnecessary files on your hard disk to free up disk space and help your computer run faster, use Disk Cleanup. It removes temporary files, empties the Recycle Bin, and removes a variety of system files and other items that you no longer need.

To delete files using Disk Cleanup

Steps:-
1.      Click the Start button. In the search box, type Disk Cleanup, and then, in the list click Disk Cleanup.
2.      In the Drives list, click the hard disk that you want to clean up, and then click OK.
3.      In the Disk Cleanup dialog box, on the Disk Cleanup tab, select the check boxes for the file types that you want to delete, and then click OK.

8. Uninstall software or programs that you never use

Even a brand-new computer has goes for pre-installed softwareand programs that you never use and don't need. If you don't use a program, uninstall it.
Many unwanted programs run in the background upon startup whether you are using them or not. They take up disk space and memory. If you don't need those  program, uninstall it. One warning: If you don't recognize a program name or know what it does, don't uninstall it until you've checked to see if it's software essential to running your PC.

To uninstall or change a program

1.      Click the Start button>> clicking Control Panel>> clicking Programs, and then clicking Programs and Features.
2.      Select a program, and then click Uninstall.
3.      Finish or press ok.

9. Defragment your hard drive

Improve performance by defragmenting your hard disk

Fragmentation makes your hard disk do extra work that can slow down your computer. Removable storage devices such as USB flash drives can also become fragmented. Disk Defragmenter rearranges fragmented data so your disks and drives can work more efficiently. Disk Defragmenter runs on a schedule, but you can also analyze and defragment your disks and drives manually.
steps:
2.      Under Current status, select the disk you want to defragment.
3.      To determine if the disk needs to be defragmented or not, click Analyze disk. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.Once Windows is finished analyzing the disk, you can check the percentage of fragmentation on the disk in the Last Run column. If the number is above 10%, you should defragment the disk.
4.      Click Defragment disk. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
Disk Defragmenter might take from several minutes to a few hours to finish, depending on the size and degree of fragmentation of your hard disk. You can still use your computer during the defragmentation process.

Notes

·         If the disk is already in exclusive use by another program or is formatted using a file system other than NTFS file system, FAT, or FAT32, it can't be defragmented.
·         Network locations can't be defragmented.
·         If a disk that you're expecting to see under Current status is not showing up there, it might be because it contains an error. Try to repair the disk first, then return to Disk Defragmenter to try again. See Check a drive for errors for more information.

10. Try troubleshooting for performance

Your PC may also have some simple or more complex issues that Windows 7 can repair for you. Try a troubleshooting program to automatically fix those issues.
In Windows 7, the maintenance troubleshooter fixes problems, such as cleaning up unused files and shortcuts, so your computer can run faster. The performance troubleshooter checks specifically for performance issues. Both are quick and easy to use and may provide you with some useful suggestions.

There Windows provide two troubleshooting programs that you can use to automatically fix problems with your computer's performance or with maintenance of your system.
Steps:- Open the Performance troubleshooter
·         Clicking the Start button and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under System and Security, click Check for performance issues.
Steps:- Open the System Maintenance troubleshooter
·         Clicking Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under System and Security, click Run maintenance task.
